SNDF Officials Hold Discussions with the Head of the British Office in Somaliland

Hargeisa, (SNDF) –Somaliland National Disability Federation (SNDF) delegation, comprising Deputy Chairperson Osman Ahmed Abdi and Executive Director, Mohamed Ahmed Essa on Monday held a meeting with the Head of the British Office in Somaliland, Mr. Stuart Brown at Ambassador Hotel in Hargeisa.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Somaliland, and SNDF response towards Somaliland people living with disabilities. Mr. Brown expressed his delight towards meeting with the management team of the consortium of disabled people’s organizations in Somaliland, SNDF and the immense progress that has been made by SNDF towards the empowerment and effective representation of persons living with disability in Somaliland.

According to Mohamed Ahmed Essa, the Executive Director of SNDF, the key points discussed during the meeting include;

The inclusion of persons with disabilities in DFID funded humanitarian and development programs in the areas of education, health, awareness, and job creation. Mr. Brown promised that persons with disabilities will be included for soon-to-be-launched projects in Somaliland.
To facilitate the creation of working connections between SNDF and UK based disability organization.
Special Provisions to persons with disabilities such as Ramps, railings & wheelchairs availability in voting centers during upcoming Somaliland parliamentary and local council elections slated to be held on May 31, 2021.
In the last two months, SNDF officials have met with 7 ambassadors from the international community, including the ambassadors of Norway, Sweden, Germany, Finland and Britain to Somaliland and Somalia.
